New technology is helping to boost construction efficiency at the new Paternoster Square development in the heart of the City of London. The development team, managed by Stanhope plc and Bovis Lend Lease plc, is using a Web-based project collaboration tool provided via Asite. This system allows over 60 companies working on the development to publish, access and update project drawings and documents securely on the Internet. In the first such application on a UK construction site, Asite is making it possible for the builders to view the latest shared information on iPAQ hand-held PCs from Compaq, part of the new HP, powered by the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system. This helps site managers to check the accuracy and quality of on-site activity, such as the erection of the structural steel frames, much more easily than traditional, paper-based practices would otherwise allow.
