A colleague of mine offers an example of how to read business documents. He reads them with highlighter in hand and invariably marks one line (or key phrase) in each paragraph. This allows him subsequently to re-scan the document and recall the entire content. It works for him! I have tried it and it does not work for me. I am not sure if his brain works differently or simply that he has trained himself to operate in this way – and I simply need more training. It seems such a highly productive way of handling documents (and only handling them only once in any kind of detail) that I think I might persevere. Of course, I might just be the proverbial old dog that can not learn new tricks …
