The shape of things to come

Steelcase has combined its knowledge of the workplace and working practices directly with new technology and created a series of Web-based information appliances, Wizard Web Signs. Simple to use, they will allow teams of knowledge workers to collaborate and share information quickly and easily. The first of Wizard Web Signs has just been launched in the UK and North America and is an innovative new office solution for reserving meeting-rooms and managing shared spaces. RoomWizard is an IP-addressable, flat-screen display that is connected to the organisation's network, so that anyone can view the availability of meeting-rooms, see who is meeting in them, and reserve space from anywhere on the Network. It also allows those who are unfamiliar with a location to see what rooms there are at a specific office, their availability and what facilities they offer. A RoomWizard flat screen is placed outside each meeting-room, so that people passing can see the booking diary for the room. If the room is free, they can book it there and then, using the intuitive touch screen. By clicking on the RoomWizard icon on their PC or laptop, anyone can access the appliance on the intranet. They can make a booking, repeat a booking, e-mail those who are to attend the meeting and ensure that the room has all the equipment they need.
