Onset Technology's METAmessage for Wireless solution supports Microsoft's Mobile Information Server (MIS)/Outlook Mobile Access 2002 application, giving Pocket PC, WAP-enabled phone and other hand-held device users remote access to e-mail attachments and desktop files. This means that MIS/Outlook Mobile Access 2002 users can remotely read and print over 30 different types of e-mail attachments, and can read and print Web pages without connecting to the Internet. The solutions make access faster, simpler, and more cost-effective by converting file attachments into text at the server, letting users avoid lengthy file downloads. Onset's recently introduced GetFile module, a component of the METAmessage solutions, also increases the availability of vital corporate information to MIS/Outlook Mobile Access 2002 users by providing wireless access to files on their corporate networks. Onset's METAmessage solutions are the only message conversion offerings that support MIS/Outlook Mobile Access, Microsoft's mobile device and telephone portal operating environment for browsing and receiving notifications from Outlook e-mail messages, calendars, tasks, and contacts. "The MIS team recognises the need for an e-mail attachment and file access solution that supports both text conversion and fax output from cell phones and PocketPC devices. We understand that downloading an attachment to your PocketPC, especially a large file, is not always appropriate and is not even possible for cell phone devices. So being able to print the attachment to a fax machine or read it as text is a valuable capability", said David Rasmussen, lead product manager for MMIS at Microsoft Corp.
