DV update

In the time it took me to (think about and) write paragraph 1, my DV camcorder managed to break itself – honestly! I went to use it and could get no power to the unit itself – not even enough to open the cassette door and take out my tape of my last trip abroad so that I could start to edit it. And here is a lesson about service in the UK since the great "quality revolution" (which always seemed to end up reducing costs for the suppliers). I had the camcorder on extended warranty and so began a game of telephone tag … hold and wait. The call center, which was my only connection with the warranty supplier, was permanently busy … I left messages (via an elaborate menu system) … they failed to respond … I got frustrated and angry … left another message … and so on. Eventually, after three days (yes, three days) I got through to a real person and sorted the matter out. This may have been a simple and cheap process for them but it was immensely annoying for me – and I will never use that warranty company again. Good business?
