Malice aforethought
Malice aforethought
Consulting and systems integration company Syntegra (who offer a multitude of services, including virus protection) offers the following warnings:
- •
Virus incidents continue to increase.
- •
Over half of these incidents result from email transmission, compared to one-fourth of them occurring as a result of infected diskettes.
- •
About two-thirds of malicious code incidents are caused by macro viruses infecting Microsoft Word and Excel, while only 10 per cent of virus incidents result from boot-sector and file-infector viruses.
- •
More than half of organisations currently underestimate the impact and severity of malicious code.
- •
The median response time for virus incidents is five days.
- •
Major losses of productivity, access to resources and to the overall business are experienced when a virus hits a company.
- •
There is also an impact on the productivity of applications, as well as on the deployment of new technologies chosen to avoid risk, and the potential for news exposures.
