The emergence of European Works Councils (EWCs) is a very important development in international industrial relations and the most significant intervention by the European Union in the industrial relations field. This is the second of three studies undertaken by the authors into the establishment and operation of EWCs (the first The Establishment of European Works Councils – From Information Committee to Social Worker was published in March 1999). This book examines the development of a typology of EWCs and explores the prospects for establishing networks of EWCs. It does this using case studies drawn from food, banking and insurance sectors.
