The Institute for Communications Arbitration and Forensics (ICAF) has been launched by the communications management association (CMA). The new institute is designed to give support to UK organisations across both public and private sectors, acting as a focal point for good practice in information and communications technology (ICT) security. A cause of concern for organisations is realising their ability in detecting and preventing criminal activities – such as financial crimes of money laundering, tax evasion, hacking or credit card fraud. There is a threat of substantial damage to businesses and public services from violations of network security, representing a vulnerability on the part of the employer. Arguably, this could cause alarm among IT professionals. CMA's concentration on ICT security sees the organisation co-operate with professional bodies and employers – as well as individual professionals and trade users. Although a UK association for senior IT user professionals, CMA will work at an international level by channelling the concerns of UK users in their dealings with international bodies.
