Death of the PC

Death of the PC

There has been much discussion about the death of the PC. Certainly we are seeing many more application-specific devices, greater power in other "boxes", a wider set of electronics devices, etc. but it is too soon to say whether this simply re-positions the PC within this wider set of devices or heralds its demise. The killer application seems to bee-mail on interactive, digital PC. When people can access their e-mail from the comfort of their lounge during advertisement breaks in programmes (what, they are not watching the adverts!), there will be less need to wander off to the lonely home office, switch on the PC and wait … and wait … before finding out there are 37 junk e-mail messages and two genuine ones.
