MAPICS, a leading provider of collaborative, e-business enterprise applications for manufacturers, has announced the availability of Point.Man release 6.0, providing customers with expanded international and collaborative e-business capabilities. New functionality added to Point.Man 6.0 should enable global manufacturers to enhance customer relationships, tighten their supply chain, compete more effectively in their industry and add new e-business and collaborative technology at their own pace. Point.Man release 6.0 customer benefits include:

  • International expansion. Point.Man can provide greater capabilities for global, multi-site manufacturers. Point.Man is now available in Spanish, Chinese, English, Italian, French and German language versions. Point.Man's financials have also been enhanced to meet the needs of the international community and to support country-specific requirements.

  • Enhanced e-business functionality. Release 6.0 includes additional Internet-enabled business processes empowering manufacturers to become virtually connected to their supply chain and easily support remote business processes, such as outsourced manufacturing.

  • E-customer relationship management. Point-Man 6.0 delivers e-CRM capabilities that enable manufacturers to achieve greater consumer intimacy. These new collaborative capabilities build on Point.Man's customer-centric design that enables manufacturers to manage the entire relationship from prospect and quote management, product configuration and order processing, to call handling and service management.

  • Expanded supply chain management capabilities. Point.Man release 6.0 embeds advanced planning and scheduling capabilities. MAPICS' APS engine helps manufacturers manage their most constrained resources and make informed decisions to maximise profitability. Using features such as Web-based "capable-to-promise" and "profitable-to-promise", manufacturers can quickly review the up-to-the-minute status of material and capacity resources and notify customers of their ability to deliver products.

  • Deepened industry focus. Release 6.0 provides even richer functionality for two of MAPICS' targeted industries. Reducing time to market is a primary business driver in the high-tech and electronics industries. Engineers, customers, and suppliers need to collaborate on product design – regardless of their physical location. With this release, Point.Man delivers a Web-based product life cycle management solution known as MAGIK!

A second business driver in the high-tech and electronic industries is the need to balance control with agility. High-tech manufacturers often have lengthy bills of material that require many serialised items to be tracked for quality and regulatory purposes. Manufacturers need to serial-control these items; however, the task becomes difficult with outsourcing, configure-to-order and assemble-to-order environments. This release introduces an innovative "Bill of serial" that provides the agility manufacturers need to add serialised items anywhere as late as possible in the production process and to view the Bill of serial as a subset of the entire multi-level bill of material.
