I used a stapler yesterday – as most days. Because it jammed on me, I was forced into thinking about this humble stapler, its engineering and its service (yes, I know I should "get a life"). The stapler is an amazing piece of simple, robust, functional engineering. It works – over and over again. The occasional jam is often because we put too large a set of papers into it. The consumable costs are ludicrously low. It must be on the list of top ten office aids. I give my nomination to the stapler for "product of the year", yet again.
