Skilled sellers

Management skills is now the subject most frequently addressed by US retail companies in their training programs, edging out more traditional topics like customer relations and technology skills, according to a recent study released at the National Retail Federation annual meeting. The study was conducted by MOHR Learning, a unit of Provant, Inc., and 79 retail organizations participated.

"As retailers expand, acquire other properties, reposition or re-brand, managers become the critical players in communicating and instilling change throughout the organization", said MOHR Learning CEO Michael Patrick. "Clearly retailers want to make sure their managers have the skills needed to do this job."
