A matter of scale
A couple of months ago, the Democratic Republic of The Congo was in the news. What mattered there is unimportant (for the purposes of my point, here – it was very important for the people of The Congo); what struck me was a remark in passing on the television news that The Congo is approximately the same size as western Europe. Although one looks at maps, only simple statements like that bring home the huge size and scale of Africa. When one then thinks about "productivity" in Africa you can see the struggle that organisations like PAPA (the Pan African Productivity Association) have in disseminating their message and making real change.
