IDS Scheer has retooled its business process management (BPM) software to better support e-business applications. The German firm has launched its Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (Aris) 5.0 E-Business Suite, a new version of its product that includes a browser-based interface and other Web hooks. Business processes take on additional importance as firms do business with customers and partners via the Web. "With business process re-engineering, we tore down the walls between functional-oriented departments within a firm", said August-Wilhelm Scheer, the company's founder. "Now, [with the Web], we look at processes that go through firms and include supplier and customer relationships." The E-Business Suite includes version 5.0 of the core Aris toolset, which comprises a modelling client and server component for creating Web-based business processes. IDS Scheer has upgraded the suite's add-on components, including WebLink, which lets firms distribute models via the Internet. See www.ids-scheer.de/english/index2.htm.
