Power houses

HomeFREEHome.co.uk recently reached another milestone. It passed the £200 million mark for property on its books, and if these houses sell through its free Web site, it will save its customers around £3 million in estate agents' commissions. So far, the site has had under £30,000 spent on marketing. "The news of a site that really works spreads effectively by word of mouse!" says co-founder and director Simon Jackson. The site makes money by offering targeted advertising on its site, shifting the cost of moving house back to the businesses that benefit from it. "With such a huge database of people live in the property market, we can negotiate deals with associated services that individuals cannot", says Mat Jackson, 34, co-founder and business development advisor. "We have harnessed the power of the Internet and given that power back to the people." July saw the launch of the international and lettings sections, and in the autumn progress was in the form of a commercial and industrial section – all free of all charges. The Web does indeed create new business models!
