Award-winning TIMBERWeb.COM, the world's leading Web site for the timber industry, has launched the first e-marketplace for timber and forest products businesses to buy and sell over the Internet. TIMBERWeb Trader can handle an entire transaction - from forest to factory - allowing traders in more than 100 countries to fulfil their exact timber requirements online. The concept has been devised by the hi-tech timber and forest products company KDM International PLC, based in Suffolk, England.

TIMBERWeb.COM will shortly be demerged from KDM and hopes to float on the London Stock Exchange and the European NASDAQ by the end of the year. TIMBERWeb won the 1998 FT Business Website "Site to Watch" Award and was"Highly Commended" in the 1999 New Media Age "Business Publishing" Awards. The site has constantly updated news from the worldwide timber industry, plus international general news and business reports. Version 1.1 of the software enables buyers and sellers, who must be members of TIMBERWeb.COM, to access and post offers to buy or sell timber. Fuzzy logic search algorithms enable members to find the specifications they are looking for and members can make offers to buy or sell against specifications online.

TIMBERWeb.COM enables buyers to find the specific type of timber and the exact specifications, allowing them to complete the online deal within five minutes. A currency converter makes it even easier to trade. Traders can pick and mix the services they want - including currency fixing, trade insurance and freight forwarding - and TIMBERWeb.COM plans dispute resolution and arbitration services.
