Seize the opportunity
The conventional wisdom suggests that you should buy software to fit your operating procedures, not fit your operating procedures to purchased software. However, we old work study hands know that you should always analyse and improve working methods before automating them. In truth, when purchasing software systems, few organisations do this. They automate what they have. This gives the poor system implementers only a one-off opportunity to carry out some surreptitious re-engineering as a new system is introduced - blaming the changes on the need to comply with the workings of the software. As in the last item - there is always more than one way to add value!
