Building on its successful partnership with Cable & Wireless Communications, in the UK, IBM recently announced a new $20 million outsourcing agreement over nine years with parent company Cable & Wireless plc. Under the deal, IBM will manage the desktop environment of over 1,000 seats for Cable & Wireless corporate headquarters in the UK. This involved the transfer of 17 staff to IBM. The desktop environment will be combined with over 15,000 PCs already IBM's responsibility under the original $3 billion agreement with Cable & Wireless Communications, making the combined Cable & Wireless sites one of the largest in Europe. The new contract is spread over nine years to bring it in line with the existing Cable & Wireless Communications agreement and will be run by the same management team headed up by Bill Kleinhofer.
