Coventry-based precision indexing equipment specialist, Expert UK Ltd, launched the first two members of a new globoidal indexer range at Drives and Controls 2000, at the Telford Exhibition Centre, in March. Designated the ERD108 and ERD152, the new precision indexers are available with two to 32 stations as standard and a variety of motion periods - enabling indexing times of as little as 0.30 sec. to be achieved. The new drives incorporate an industry standard mechanism design with heavy-duty cam followers to combine precise motion characteristics with high accuracy and strength. All ERD indexing units feature an oversize output bearing to provide high load bearing capabilities and an extremely rigid base for the mounting of rotary tables. In addition, an integral torque-limiting clutch within the standards drive package protects units in the event of a mechanical lock-up during the indexing motion. Expert ERD units are offered with the widest variety of drive options on the market today. These include variable speed DC systems; cost-effective, simple AC brake motors suitable for use with inverters; and high-speed electro-magnetic clutch brakes capable of delivering "cycle on demand" rates in excess of 100 operations per minute.
