E-convenient
This past Christmas was to have been the first "real" e-commerce Christmas. The world (or at least a large portion - and the rich portion - of it) is now wired and the convenience of Web shopping lures us to shop online. By the time you read this, the figures may be out and we will know how successful such lures have been. I have this sneaky suspicion that the payment methods are not yet right. People are still wary of trusting credit card numbers over the Web (and judging by the recent security scares over some of the newer Internet banks, they are probably right to be cautious); the newer payment methods (the so-called digital wallets and purses, and the micropayment systems) have not yet become established - and there is a vacuum. Time will fill it, but I for one will not be surprised to find that Christmas e-shopping was less than anticipated.
