Stick with it

The Gartner Group is advising companies to miss out on an upgrade cycle for their PCs. PCs are now fast enough, they say. Even Microsoft finds it difficult to write software badly enough to cripple modern PC systems - so why upgrade to the manufacturers tune. You should now expect PCs to last five years - and to give acceptable performance over all of the period. Similarly, they are saying do not upgrade to Windows 2000 until at least mid-2001 at the earliest. The marginal benefits are not worth the investment.
