Young, gifted and green

Young, gifted and green

The starting gun has been fired for the first worldwide contest for young environmental researchers: in some 100 states around the globe, young scientists of tomorrow are working feverishly at their projects to win one of the sought-after tickets to the contest final in Hanover. There the crème de la crème will be chosen between 16 and 22 October 2000, during EXPO 2000 the World Fair. Around 200 young researchers with a total of 150 environmental projects are expected by the initiators at the final round in Hanover under the umbrella Worldwide Young Researchers for the Environment (WYRE). They are all under 21 and are carrying out their own research projects in environmental sciences or presenting new developments in environmental or energy technology. WYRE offers participants the chance to present their environmental projects to an international jury of well-known scientists and to the public. In addition to the contest, WYRE is represented in the EXPO 2000 theme park between June and October 2000 in the exhibition "Umwelt: Landschaft, Klima" - "Environment: Landscape, Climate". Selected work by the up-and-coming scientists will be exhibited there.
