Designs on it

A 3D CAD Technology Support Centre offering Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMES) free advice and consultancy - backed by access to advanced 3D product design and analysis tools - is in operation at the University of Huddersfield in conjunction with leading CAD/CAM/CAE solutions developer, Matra Datavision Ltd. Providing valuable design resources to enable new products to be brought to market faster and more cost-effectively, the new Centre was funded under the EU's European Regional Development Fund and is primarily targeted at Objective 2, Yorkshire and Humberside SMEs with less than 250 employees. Through the regional service, qualifying West Yorkshire companies gain free access to Matra Datavision's advanced Prelude and Euclid series 3D solid modelling and analysis tools, subject to project duration. For extended development programmes, users are offered full training in the use of the Centre's facilities, backed by regular access and support. In addition, production of prototypes can also be undertaken through the Centre or one of its regional partners, using advanced machining or rapid prototyping techniques. Prelude and Euclid are both powerful design-to-manufacturing tools geared to engineers' practical needs. Fully photo-realistic images can be produced as stand-alone product visualisations or incorporated directly into users' promotional literature and technical publications. Equally, the 3D CAD models can be used to create multi-axis CNC machining programmes or converted into industry-standard formats to suit Laminate Object Modelling (LOM) or stereolithographic (SLA) rapid prototyping techniques.
