This is an intriguing and interesting book a mix of hard facts, new concepts, advice and tips, supporting material and fun! It includes some of the relatively common approaches to promoting and encouraging creativity such as "mind-expanding" exercises but also concepts I have not come across before (though most of you will recognise the underlying approach from your early management services training). Michalko introduces the reader to the acronym SCAMPER which represents a checklist for creative thinking, consisting of the stages: Substitute? Combine? Adapt? Magnify? Modify? Put to other uses? Eliminate? Rearrange/Reverse? There are a number of such "tricks" or techniques which may help in some circumstances. This leaves the reader to select those that match his/her particular personality, or a given situation. If this book is read with an open mind, it could make a significant contribution to helping improve creativity.
