Advent Limited, a leading investor in software companies has acquired a minority stake in Advanced Visual Technology Limited (Visual Technology), on behalf of the Advent 2 VCT, in a financing arranged by technology investment bank NewMedia Investors Ltd. In less than two years, Visual Technology's client base has grown to include major food chains, department stores, clothing, motor accessory and DIY retailers in the UK. Among the retail organisations the company has worked with are J. Sainsbury, the John Lewis Partnership, Asda, Marks & Spencer plc, Halfords, Mothercare and Waitrose. During 1998 Visual Technology appointed US-based Intactix International, the merchandising software arm of Pricer/Inactix as a global value-added reseller of Retail FOCUS. Visual Technology's world-class proprietary technology has redefined the operation of retail sales space, achieving a leading position in the rapidly growing automated space planning market. Visual Technology is the developer of Retail FOCUS, dynamic visual space-planning software which enables leading retailers to design and utilise their sales space in enterprise-wide applications. Retail FOCUS links merchandising and store planning functions, achieving significant gains in the productivity and accuracy of new store layouts and the management of existing schemes.
