In memoriam of Professor Arne Collen
Article Type: In memoriam From: The Learning Organization, Volume 19, Issue 4
Professor Collen received his PhD in 1971, in Experimental & General Psychology from the Ohio State University. Until his death in February 2012 he was Director of Research and member of the Executive Faculty at the Saybrook University, San Francisco, US. He spent his life focusing primarily on education and research, without ever drawing a separation line between them. Humanistic psychology and Systemics were the central roots of his interests, in which I had the privilege and honour to participate as his old friend. We had different disciplinary origins. Yet, we shared a common endeavour in the search for inter-disciplinarity due to systems research, which was continuously maintained by our long-time friendship. Among our several collaborations I like to recall papers and talks delivered in the field of Architecture, based on applying a humanistic and systemic approach. I also like remembering his several contributions to the congresses of the Italian Systems Society. I’m proud to be the editor of his last article.
