Editorial

This issue brings to a close Volume 13 for the year 2006. I wanted to extend my personal thanks to our fantastic Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) and also to our reviewers at large. The articles that have been published this year come from across the globe, once again emphasizing the international acceptance as well as the need for organizational learning and knowledge management research and practice. This special issue further promotes this idea of international sharing of knowledge and business practices, especially in a multinational organizational context. Please see Peter Smith’s editorial introducing the special issue immediately following this editorial.

A total of 62 articles have been submitted by various authors for consideration to be published in The Learning Organization, of which 57 have completed at least the first round of review. Of these 57 articles, only two have been accepted outright, or 3.5 percent. A total of 16 additional (28 percent) have been conditionally accepted, where conditions may include minor re-writes and minor addition of new material. The remaining 68.5 percent of the articles required either substantial re-writes and were asked to be revised and resubmitted to the journal (43.9 percent) and 24.6 percent were rejected for publication. These decisions are greatly supported by the individuals who perform reviews for the journal to whom my sincerest appreciation for their service is given.

In addition to our authors being international, I wanted to highlight the truly international body of EAB members and reviewers that serve The Learning Organization journal as well as their mixed academic and professional backgrounds. Our 32 EAB members and 48 other reviewers are located in the following countries: Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Great Britain (UK), Hong Kong, India, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and the USA. Just over 77 percent are in academia, while almost 13 percent are currently employed in industry. This brief overview of our review team is to solidify the ideal of international and academic and industry collaboration on organizational learning and knowledge management research and application.

As Editor, I wanted to initiate a new award to further express my thanks to the EAB and all of our reviewers for their outstanding contributions to many of the articles that are published in The Learning Organization.. This award is The Learning Organization Reviewer of the Year Award, which will include a certificate and a small cash award. It was a very difficult task to select a single reviewer of the year for The Learning Organization due to the exceptionally high quality of the reviews performed. Stephen Henderson and Christopher Kimble are both to be recognized for performing the greatest quantity of reviews for the journal. The six finalist for the reviewer of the year award, due to their exceptionally high quality reviews, timeliness in returning reviews, and having accomplished multiple reviews for the journal are: Deborah Blackman, Alton Chua, Boris Jaeger, Christopher Kimble, Victor Oltra, and Kate Walsh, with the award going to Boris Jaeger. Congratulations Boris, and many thanks to all my reviewers.
