Computrol invests in another Tucano Screen Printer from Essemtec

Article Type: Industry news From: Soldering & Surface Mount Technology, Volume 24, Issue 1

Computrol, Inc. has purchased another Tucano In-line Screen Printer (Figure 4) from Essemtec, a leading manufacturer of SMT production equipment.

This marks the second Tucano purchase made by Computrol and is a key step in Computrol’s strategic effort to increase its capacity and expand its capabilities: “Computrol has been totally satisfied with the performance of the first Tucano, and also with the level of support we are getting from Essemtec. The new printer will further enhance our ability to achieve high quality levels while decreasing changeover time”, stated Farid Anani, Computrol’s Manufacturing Manager.

Essemtec’s Tucano automatic stencil printer was designed based on experiences from solar wafer printing and metallization. The printer uniquely combines accuracy and quality with high speed and reliability. Tucano features a unique double camera vision system with no moving parts or mirrors.

Tucano features a unique design with only one XY-drive for vision, PCB stopper, stencil cleaning system, stencil load and unload, and 2-D inspection. The special design increases the reliability of the printer and simplifies maintenance. Additionally, Tucano requires less space than other printers with a 600 mm×580 mm printing area on a footprint of only 1.3 m2. It uses fewer motors than other systems for its operation and, therefore, uses less drive control electronics and energy.

The new Tucano will be installed at Computrol’s facility in Orem, Utah, where the company specializes in turnkey electronics contract manufacturing; complete electronics assembly; single- and double-sided PCB assembly; cable assembly; wireless harness assembly; supply chain management; SMT, through-hole and mixed PCA; BGA assembly; press-fit and backplane assembly; electro-mechanical and subassembly builds; complete box builds; flying probe test, in-circuit test and functional test; and RoHS compliant/lead-free procurement and assembly.
