DYMAX UV conformal coatings provide high reliability protection

Newly available from Intertronics is a selector guide featuring a wide range of DYMAX solvent-free UV conformal coatings for electronic assembly, together with an application list and selection of compatible light curing systems. The guide describes how the coatings and application equipment provide cleaner, more efficient and environmentally friendly coating processes that offer better protection with less resin – and lower processing costs.

The selector guide lists the available UV conformal coatings, recommends how to choose a coating and describes how the materials are successfully applied and cured, as well as recommended removal methods. Performance characteristics listed include viscosity, hardness, elongation at break, modulus of elasticity, dielectric strength, volume and surface resistivity of each product.

The selective spraying of conformal coatings and the equipment necessary for their successful application is described, together with its advantages which include allowing material to be applied only where and in the precise thickness it is needed, limiting the volume of material needed for PCB protection. Compared with solvent-based systems, the amount of material required is also lowered.

DYMAX coatings are tough, abrasion resistant resins with excellent properties. Designed for harsh environmental conditions, many are both Mil Spec and UL approved. Some are easily repairable and grades are available that fluoresce brightly upon exposure to black light. Others form smooth, glossy protective surfaces and exhibit excellent adhesion to a wide variety of glass-filled epoxy, metal and ceramic surfaces. Coatings and encapsulants are also available that exhibit excellent adhesion to difficult surfaces such as polyimides.

Curing equipment for is featured and its cure parameters described. Conveyor mounted systems for use in high speed automated assembly, are also shown, with high intensity spot curing systems and stand alone curing chambers.

DYMAX adhesives and curing systems form part of Intertronics' adhere concept, which covers the company's range of adhesives, encapsulants, coatings, sealants and tapes as well as the associated dispensing, curing and surface preparation equipment and materials used in the manufacturing and assembly processes.
