Benchmarking/PPM monitoring your process with industry

Benchmarking/PPM monitoring your process with industry

Keywords: Benchmarking, SMART Group

There were no established methods or resources by which companies could compare their manufacturing yields with other similar businesses until now. The information exists and is now easily available for free to companies. The lack of process yield data for company comparison can be a problem for benchmarking. The SMART Group parts-per-million (PPM) defect monitoring project is solving this problem to benefit the industry.

The most commonly used method of assessing yield is PPM defects. This provides a measure of the defect level for a process stage or a specific product, against a known number of opportunities for defects to occur. Now you can find out how your printing, placement, reflow and wave soldering process compares, asses your product type against the average defect levels in the industry for free at www.ppm-monitoring.com, you can get more data at Nurnberg 2003 and how the project is opening up in Europe.
