New Dymax UV-curable conformal coatings cut operation costs
Keywords: Dymax, Conformal coatings
Dymax Europe GmbH is extending its line of UV-curable conformal coatings (Plate 8).
The new coatings cure in seconds under exposure to UV- and visible light. They perform a 100 per cent solvent free and cost effective solution for both manual and automated applications. Designed to meet specific requirements for printed circuit board (PCB) protection, they incorporate a number of features never before available in light curing coatings.
Plate 8 Dymax has extended its line of UV-curable conformal coatings
In addition to heat assisted and two-part room temperature shadow curing versions, the family is matched with processing systems that assure precise placement, minimum deposition and assure complete cure of all coated areas. Minimum deposition and faster curing translate to lower processing cost.
New coatings in the line include:
- •
984-LVUF – a faster curing grade of UL and Mil Spec approved 984-LVF conformal coating;
- •
9-20557 – a tough and flexible coating with tenacious adhesion to difficult solder masks;
- •
9-20558 – a coating for flex circuits; encapsulant for sharp solder points;
- •
9-984B – a black, opaque coating for concealing sensitive components and circuitry.
When these coatings are dispensed with precision systems and cured with 180-degree exposure UV light systems the need for secondary curing is virtually eliminated. If necessary, room temperature shadow curing under components can be accomplished with Dymax two-part mix grades or coatings with secondary heat cure capability.
Dymax conformal coatings are tough, abrasion resistant resins with excellent electrical properties. Designed for harsh environmental conditions, many coatings are both Mil Spec and UL approved. The coatings are easily repairable and grades are available that fluoresce brightly upon exposure to black light. Coatings form smooth glossy protective surfaces and exhibit excellent adhesion to a wide variety of circuit boards glass-filled epoxy, metal and ceramic surfaces.
