Quad Systems Corporation introduced the Quad MeridianTM 1050 Series to the North American market at APEX 2000. The Quad Meridian 1050 Series consists of two placement systems - the Meridian 1050M and the Meridian 1050P.

The Meridian 1050M is designed specifically for memory board production and achieves maximum placement rates as high as 8,000CPH. The 1050M's unique high-speed, high-precision vision system allows for inspection and placement of all memory board components including chip capacitors and resistors, TSOP memory ICs, and BGA CSPs.

The Meridian 1050P is being designed for high-speed placement of ICs and connectors up to 50mm x 50mm, including QFPs, BGAs and BGA CSPs. The 1050P supports up to two 30-level JEDEC tray shuttles for increased IC component capacity.

Meridian 1050 Series models will feature:

  • four variable pitch component placement heads for simultaneous IC pick-ups from JEDEC trays and waffle packs;

  • an embedded JEDEC tray supply unit capable of supplying four different types of components from up to 120 trays for uninterrupted production during tray loading and unloading;

  • linear encoders for enhanced component placement accuracy;

  • dual y-axis motors for even gantry movement;

  • high-speed z-axis with compliant placement force;

  • three-stage conveyor with automatic width adjustment and soft-stop transport;

  • Windows NT® operating system equipped with Quad's tutorial software - the Meridian Programming Wizard.

The Meridian 1050 will be a part of the Quad Meridian Series of fully compatible SMT assembler models. The eight models in this series address a wide variety of production requirements. Specifications are expressed using the standard definitions and validation methods of the proposed IPC 9850 standard. IPC 9850 is designed to facilitate meaningful comparisons of machine speed and accuracy.
