Intelligent Reasoning Systems (IRSI) has secured investment worth $13 million from a private consortium led by US investment partnership MSD Capital. IRSI, of Austin, Texas, supplies advanced automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems for printed circuit board assembly and high density interconnect.

The investment provides IRSI with the capital to continue its aggressive growth. IRSI CEO Jon Hopper said, "The new capital allows for faster ramp of our global infrastructure. The company has raised $20 million in the past year, to enhance our global support and product delivery capabilities."

IRSI is transforming the AOI segment of the electronics manufacturing industry with its adaptive, knowledge-based software engine. The company's Intelligent Optical Inspection system adapts to vendor variations quickly and ensures the accuracy of the information gathered about the inspected boards. In effect, the software engine functions much like a trained inspector. And since the system requires no programming, it is much easier to set up and use than competing products.
