With the new lead-free finishes, the surface finish has a different characteristic, it is generally a great deal duller and the AOI, automatic optical inspection, equipment manufacturers are frequently asked how their equipment will perform.
The National Physical Laboratory, NPL, are offering a project that will benchmark AOI equipment. They will build a lead-free board, with various lead-free finishes and test available equipment. They have experience from a recent similar project.
