OK International has announced the acquisition, on 12 October 1999, of Semtronics Corp., a Georgia based manufacturer of ionization, monitoring and grounding products used primarily in the electronics industry to prevent and eliminate the build-up of static.

In making the announcement, Michael Gouldsmith, president of OK International, stated that "The acquisition of Semtronics will allow OK International to 'globalize' its ESD business, which is currently based in the company's European HQ in the UK". The ESD business is marketed under the brand name "Ground Zero".

The new world headquarters for the Ground Zero brand will be Garden Grove, California, USA where a special facility is being completed to allow the integration of Semtronics into OK International. Additionally, OK International will expand its business outside of the European region, where the line has been known as Ground Zero. OK International plans to be a global, active player, bringing manufacturing abilities of unique and innovative ESD systems to its portfolio.

Heading up the Ground Zero global business unit will be Jim Peterson, previously a divisional vice president and general manager of Furon, a $500 million speciality chemicals company.
