SMTA's "mobile classroom" reaches out to the midwest

Keyword SMTA

The first Surface Mount Technology Association Academy of 1999 will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 11-12, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

The SMTA Academy is a "mobile classroom" tailor-made for individuals who cannot afford time out of the office yet know how vital it is to continually improve and update their skills. In order to make our rapidly changing technology as accessible as possible, the academy brings industry leaders to SMTA members' doorsteps at an affordable price.

The Minneapolis Academy's ten seminars offer something for everyone:

Soldering

  • "Defect-free reflow and wave soldering in SMT" by Ralph Woodgate, WoodCorp.

  • "Pin-in-paste soldering" by Bill Barthel, Plexus.

  • "SMT solder paste evaluation and qualification" by Phil Zarrow, ITM.

  • "The art of solder paste printing: fine pitch and BGA" by Donald Burr, Microtron.

Quality/Reliability

  • "Acceptability of electronic assemblies workshop" (using IPC-A-610B) by Constantino Gonzalez, Acme Training School.

  • "BGA rework: theory, methods and applications" by Ed Zamborsky, OK International.

  • "Reliability of BGA, flip chip, and chip scale solder joints" by Jean-Paul Clech, EPSI.

  • "SMT troubleshooting" by Phil Zarrow, ITM.

Assembly

  • "PC board assembly technology using BGA and chip scale packages" by Glenn Dody, Dody Consulting.

Contract manufacturing

  • "Keys to success for optimizing the contract manufacturing partnership" by Ralph Kenton, Ralph Kenton and Associates.

A special bonus for Academy attendees will be the Midwest Electronics Expo, May 11-12 in the Minneapolis Convention Center. This event will feature 500 exhibitors.

The cost for each Academy class is $295 for SMTA members ($395 for non-members, $95 for students). Pre-registration is recommended to assure space and materials.
