Speedline Technologies and its MPM Corporation subsidiary announced that they have acquired the business and selective assets of the SMTech Ltd stencil printer division of Quad Systems Corp., Willow Grove, PA. USA, for $14.8 million.

"This acquisition fits into Speedline's strategy to be the pre-eminent technology integrator for the electronics assembly and semiconductor packaging industries", explained Rick Berger, president of Speedline Technologies.

Bob Balog, general manager of Speedline/ MPM, commented "By joining SMTech and Speedline/ MPM's product lines, the electronics assembly market gets the full range of stencil printer products, from benchtop semi-automatic units to the most advanced automatic printers in the world. We look forward to expanding our product line by adding SMTech's cost-effective and flexible printers, most notably the Sigmaprint 500."

Under terms of the agreement, Speedline/MPM will supply Quad Systems with the SMTech product line on an OEM basis. The arrangement will enable Quad to continue to offer complete assembly line packages to current and future customers. In addition, Speedline/MPM will immediately begin to support SMTech's existing customers within their global sales, engineering and customer support services.

The SMTech acquisition marks the second time this year that Speedline has acquired a company to expand its capabilities. On September 18, 1998, Speedline acquired ACCEL, a US-based manufacturer of high performance cleaning systems for the electronics assembly and semiconductor packaging industries.
