Crisis of confidence on timber-framed tall buildings in London

Article Type: Newsbriefs From: Structural Survey, Volume 29, Issue 3

A London Assembly report calls on government to address a “crisis of confidence” on timber-framed sites and to improve fire safety for people living in tall buildings in London. The Planning and Housing Committee calls on the Government to begin its planned review of fire regulations immediately rather than wait until 2012, due to concern within the industry about the safety of timber-framed sites following a spate of recent fires. The report also calls for improvements to the way fire risks are managed in tall residential buildings after the Committee found that, at present, one in five fire risk assessments in London is inadequate.
