The Eurocodes are here!

Article Type: Newsbriefs From: Structural Survey, Volume 28, Issue 5

Keywords: Standards, Structural design

Structural Eurocodes have replaced British Standards. Full implementation of the Eurocodes took place on 1 April 2010 when the British Standards Institution withdrew 54 British Standards for the design of buildings and civil engineering structures. The ten Eurocodes are intended to harmonise structural standards across the EU, although each country can add an annex adjusting these to suit local conditions and practices. Although engineers can continue using British Standards these won’t be updated and all public sector projects must be designed using Eurocodes or a technically equivalent standard.
