TechRICS rebranding

Article Type: Newsbriefs From: Structural Survey, Volume 27, Issue 3

Keywords: Technician, Surveyor

The new Associate grade and AssocRICS designation was agreed by the Governing Council, RICS’s top decision-making body, on 18 November 2008. It will replace the current Technical grade of membership (TechRICS). Market research has shown that the current Technical grade is not widely recognised and is not meeting market needs. A recent consultation with members concluded that TechRICS lacked market recognition and the requirements and process for achieving Technical membership were unnecessarily complicated. Members were being lost to other professional organisations such as the CIOB. The new Associate grade will be positioned as an entry-level grade of membership for non-graduates with a clear and easily understood process for gaining the qualification. It will be competency based with a strong bias towards experience and workplace learning, creating a recognised non-graduate membership grade for property professionals.
