Housing developments pose possible health risk

Building new housing developments near overhead power lines poses a health risk to children, a leading UK charity has warned. The charity Children with Leukaemia is calling on government ministers in Scotland to introduce an immediate moratorium on the construction of new houses or schools close to power lines. Referring to last year’s Draper Report, which found that children living within 200 m of high voltage pylons were around 70 per cent more likely to develop childhood leukaemia than those living over 600 m away, the charity is urging ministers to take action.
