New professional asbestos qualification
The first independently accredited asbestos inspectors have qualified through National Individual Asbestos Certification Scheme (NIACS) a new professional register, jointly established by RICS and Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA). Surveyors with the NIACS qualification can demonstrate that they have a guaranteed level of competence and are therefore able to get unique access to professional indemnity insurance to undertake asbestos inspections.
The HSE estimate that the cost of managing asbestos in UK could reach £1.8 billion by 2050.
