The UK Government insists that there will be enough trained home inspectors in place by next year to implement the introduction of its home information packs.

In a response to a press coverage expressing concerns about the introduction of the so-called sellers’ packs, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) says that more than 2,000 home inspectors have already been trained or are being trained and this number is increasing rapidly.

“We are constantly tracking the numbers of people registering for the qualification in Home Inspection and we are confident that the required numbers will be in place”. It also says that the cost of the packs will be outweighed by the reduction in hidden costs that currently often occur because of problems that come to light in the survey late in the process. The ODPM has emphasised, in response to an article in the Sunday Telegraph on 22 January 2006, that home information packs (HIPs) will bring better buying and simpler selling for consumers.
