The RICS Economic Brief for February 2003 reports the interest rate cut amidst fears of a slowdown in consumer spending and uncertainties over war. Falling demand for commercial and residential property but a continued rise in construction output are all commented upon. A fall in house prices in the south-east, and stagnation elsewhere seem likely to herald a levelling off of prices in the still buoyant north of England.
