Article Type: Web sites From: Sensor Review, Volume 29, Issue 1

Sensors Unlimited, Inc

www.sensorsinc.com

This is the corporate web site for Sensors Unlimited, Inc., a part of Goodrich Corporation. Sensors Unlimited produces NIR and SWIR cameras and arrays – all based on InGaAs imaging technology.

Their detailed web site provides information on their technology, the types of sensing products they manufacture including custom foundry services, and descriptions of the types of applications their products are used in, which range from military to medical to machine vision. Their Galleries page has SWIR images and video. They have an in-depth library which features articles and technical papers on near and shortwave infrared imaging, as well as press releases about their latest products and applications. Also in the library are technical notes for support questions.

Machine Vision Online

www.machinevisiononline.org/

The Automated Imaging Association (AIA) is a non-profit trade association, representing more than 300 member companies from 26 countries, and is dedicated to promoting the use of image capture and analysis technology. The AIA hosts Machine Vision Online, a leading resource for machine vision information.

The web site is visually rather busy, but extremely comprehensive. The home page features a bi-monthly e-newsletter available to anyone who would like to subscribe, and news articles and industry press releases are posted regularly.

There is a complete online buyer’s guide that allows a prospective buyer to search by product, company, new products, and make a request for bids from leading suppliers.

User resource includes tips for new users, technical papers, applications by industry, information on in-house training, and vision standards. There is also a forum to submit questions to experts.

The site provides information on world market data and links to machine vision and imaging research and related sites. There is also a bookstore, calendar of events, and a career center for both job seekers and employers.

Though there are plenty of paid adverts and paid featured products throughout the site, this web site is an outstanding resource.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc

www.aegis-elec.com/

This is the corporate web site for Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. a supplier of imaging components and integrated system solutions that specializes in the areas of machine vision, bioscience, microscopy, conferencing, robotics, military, traffic, space and medical.

There is very descriptive information on their component solutions, integrated solutions, and technology. Under applications are listed cameras for machine vision and videoconferencing. There are links to finding a rep, trade shows, online ordering, and a new feature, their industry blogs.

Southwest Research Institute’s Machine Vision

www.swri.org/4org/d10/autoeng/mvision/

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is an independent, nonprofit applied research and development organization that specializes in the creation and transfer of technology in engineering and the physical sciences. Michael Rigney, of the Automation and Data Systems Division of the Manufacturing Systems Department, is the principal engineer for Machine Vision.

The web site lists SwRI’s machine vision research and capabilities, along with examples and images. There is a contact form offering insights about how to specify the best approach to solving a research problem. Though the web site is not very thorough, it serves as a possible channel for customer-driven research and applied machine vision projects.
