Penny + Giles has announced that its popular SRS880 rugged sealed rotary sensor is now available with an optional stainless steel housing (Plate 2). Resistance to corrosion means the sensor, which is larger and more robust than competitive offerings in the market, is suitable for heavy duty position sensing applications in offshore and marine environments where salt water corrosion can be a long-term problem.

With an 88 mm diameter stainless steel housing and 12 mm diameter shaft, SRS880 uses established technology and innovative design features to provide corrosion resistance and maximum performance under extremes of temperature, humidity, vibration and shock.

The sensor can be mounted via three M6 threaded holes in the front face or by three M6 clearance holes through the body. Sealed to IP68M, SRS880 is suitable for use in very wet and dirty hostile environments, and like others in the SRS range it can be manufactured and despatched within 3-5 days of ordering.

SRS880 is a range of 35 models with angles from 10 to 350° in 10° increments which allows the user to match the sensitivity of the system to the application for better data acquisition and closer control. The sensor uses proven long-life hybrid potentiometer track technology providing high stability with virtually infinite resolution and a life in excess of 50 million operations.

To enable the new sensor to be integrated into existing and new equipment easily, it is supplied with an industry standard series M12 locking male connector that will mate with most proprietary sensor cables designed to IEC 60947-5-2. A mating straight cabled socket with 2 or 5 m lead lengths can be supplied with the sensor if required.

SRS880 is also available with an aluminium housing and is the first of its kind to target the more heavy duty applications. All products are manufactured at Penny+Giles' ISO 9001 accredited manufacturing facility.
