Matsushita Electric Works is happy to announce the availability of its new vision sensor - LightPix (Plate 5). The LightPix vision sensor offers the set-up ease of a sensor combined with a comprehensive array of inspection checkers that ensures 100 per cent quality checking of production. LightPix is ideal for applications such as colour checking; fill level and position checking in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, packaging and manufacturing industries where a vision system is uneconomical to use but a sensor is too ineffective.

LightPix is comprised of three parts: the sensor head with built-in LED lighting, the colour display for aligning the camera, and the configuration unit. Once configured, the sensor head can be disconnected from the other parts and left to run on its own.

Depending on the application criteria, LightPix can communicate with other devices such as PLCs, operator terminals or actuators via the built-in serial and parallel ports. In addition, LightPix has an RS485 port that allows up to 31 vision sensors to be networked.

Under operation, LightPix can inspect up to 60 parts per second with a resolution of 0.1 mm, and using the touch-teach function LightPix can be configured in a matter of minutes so that 100 per cent online checking can be achieved virtually straight from the box.
