Cognex, a supplier of machine vision systems, has added a new high resolution model to its award-winning family of In-Sight vision sensors. The In-Sight^™ 4001 offers the highest ever resolution for the In-Sight series, and also a complete range of powerful vision tools that make In-Sight a popular automation tool (Plate 3).

The In-Sight 4001 provides resolution to 1,024 × 768 and is designed for use in applications that require increased definition. Whether used in automotive, electronic, pharmaceutical or packaging industries, there are many cases where higher resolution will offer a better solution, for example:

  to capture a complete image in one shot, rather than using multiple cameras or moving a single camera between points;

  viewing features on a large object where they are not close enough together to use a standard resolution camera;

• •

  for higher accuracy when carrying out measurements or gauging a component;

• •

  where features on an image are small and require increased definition

Each In-Sight 4001 sensor is equipped with built-in Ethernet communications, a full library of proven Cognex vision tools for locating, inspecting, measuring, and identifying parts, and a spreadsheet interface for fast, easy application set-up. Using Ethernet communications, In-Sight 4001 can pass information to and from other In-Sight sensors, as well as communicating with a huge range of other devices.

In-Sight 4001 is equipped with all vision software tools pre-installed. A number of optional In-Sight-compatible accessories are available including LED-based lighting modules, an Ethernet workstation, network gateway modules, and industrial camera enclosures.
