Level detection with reduced set-up time

Level detection with reduced set-up time

Keyword: Level detection

An ultrasonic sensor system capable of reliable level detection in pots or crates whilst drastically reducing set up time between changes in product runs is now available in the UK from Balluff Ltd (see Plate 8).

The Pico column sensor can be mounted in an array to detect levels in pots, or crates passing below. Any number of sensors can be "daisy-chained" together with the same switching distance. The common switching distance of all of the sensors is determined by placing a target in front of a designated "master sensor". The master sensor sends its measured distance from the target to all of the slave sensors, which in turn use this as their own switching distance to determine a correct or incorrect fill level.

Time savings between product changes are achieved because to change the switching distance for all of the sensors, only the distance of the target from the master sensor needs to be altered.
