Cognex introduces digital machine vision system

Cognex introduces digital machine vision systemKeywords: Cognex, Machine vision

Cognex has introduced the VisionPro®/CDC, an all-digital machine vision system that merges Cognex CMOS digital cameras with the company's flexible ActiveX/COM-based software development environment (Plate 10). The system sets a new standard for price/performance for PC-based vision, and will enable OEMs, system integrators, and machine builders to quickly develop and deploy applications on a seamlessly integrated, digital platform.

"The VisionPro/CDC offers tremendous value to those looking for a PC-based solution incorporating the industry's latest digital hardware components," said Peter Neve, director of Marketing, International Operations for Cognex. "Each component is designed and manufactured by Cognex, providing customers with the convenience of a single-source solution without system incompatibility issues, and with our ActiveX-based development software, programming time is significantly reduced."

The VisionPro/CDC system hardware consists of Cognex CDC Series™ CMOS digital cameras, a digital frame grabber, and a high-speed digital interface between the cameras and frame grabber for advanced camera control. Up to three large format (1,280 x 1,024) and standard resolution (640 x 480) cameras can be used interchangeably, and each camera can accept triggers and acquire images independently of the others. CDC Series cameras produce exceptionally clean, low-noise digitised images with no "pixel jitter". The cameras also feature a compact, lightweight enclosure, making them ideally sized for use on robotic arms and in space-constrained environments.

The VisionPro development software provides a flexible, graphical programming environment in which applications can be prototyped and developed in a fraction of the time it takes with conventional programming. It features a drag-and-drop graphical interface for prototyping vision applications. Customised solutions can also be developed using Visual Basic or C++, and VisionPro applications can be easily combined with other COM-based software programs.

The VisionPro/CDC system is equipped with up to three CMOS digital machine vision cameras, a digital frame grabber, an ActiveX/COM-based software development environment and full vision software library, a Getting Started manual, and detailed online documentation.
